Cherai Beach, one of the popular and most visited places, is located at about 35 kilometers from the city of Kochi, in the Cherai Village bordering the Vypeen Island of the Ernakulam District. This Beach is also known as the "Golden Beach of Kerala" as well as the "Princess of the Queen of the Arabian Sea". Vypeen Island has got sea on the west and backwaters on the east. You can see lots of Chinese Fishing nets spread out here.
For anyone who is traveling in and around the parts of Kochi, Cherai Beach is a must see place, This Cherai Beach has a long coast line of 15 kms. It is a very clean, shallow Beach and is very ideal for swimming, playing and sunbathing in the silky sands. Dolphins can also be seen in the sea occasionally.
As the Beach is located very close to the city, the sands look very inviting for the visitors in the evening after the din of the day in the city. You can see many locals as well as tourists having a picnic in the sands, which is surrounded by the tall, swaying, coconut palms and lush green paddy fields.
Recently a walkway has been added to the Beach about 400 meters long with high mask lamps on the edges of the walkway. These make a visit to the Beach in the night very interesting.
